Description

Dinonylphenol is a thick, viscous liquid, yellow to brown in colour, with a specific phenolic odour. Is a mixture of isomers, containing mainly 2,4-dinonylphenol. Dinonylphenol is very difficult to dissolve in water, but is very soluble in methanol and acetone. Dinonylphenol, like nonylphenol, is obtained by phenol alkylation with propylene trimer.

Physicochemical properties of dinonylphenol:

  • boiling point: approx. 320°C,
  • density: approx. 0.95 g/cm3,
  • flash point: > 1500°C,
  • solubility in water: insoluble,
  • colour: max.5 mg J2/100 ml.

Dinonylphenol acts as a semi-finished product in production processes. It is used in the production of industrial specialist surfactants, additives for resins and additives for the mining industry.

In the plastics industry, it is used as a plasticiser for resins as well as a dispersant for the production of phosphates, which are plastic stabilizers. In the paint and varnish industry, dinonylphenol is used as an additive to epoxy and phenol resins.
